Scoring

How is score calculated? Chips multiplied by mult. Everything in the game moves one of those two numbers or changes when they move. Full walkthrough: How scoring works.

What’s the difference between +Mult and ×Mult? +Mult adds a fixed amount. ×Mult multiplies the total accumulated so far — which is why ×Mult is devastating once you have a decent base and near-useless without one. Placement rules: Joker order.

Should I build chips or mult? Whichever is currently smaller relative to your options. The score is a product, so balance beats stacking one side.

Jokers

Does joker order really matter? Yes, and it’s the cheapest improvement available. Same jokers, different order, routinely double the score. See Joker order.

How many jokers should I keep? Every joker occupies a permanent slot. If it isn’t contributing, sell it — the full list of quiet mistakes covers this and nine others.

Shop and economy

Should I skip blinds? Usually no — you’re trading three resources for one tag. Exceptions and reasoning: Economy and interest.

When should I stop rerolling? When the next reroll costs more than finding your target is worth. Name the target first; if you can’t, you’re buying a lottery ticket.

Planet card or joker? Once you have real multipliers, hand levels — they cost no slot. Before that, take the joker. Full rule: Hand levels vs jokers.

Hands and decks

Which hand should I level? The one you can assemble every single ante, not the one that scores highest when everything lines up.

Why do good players shrink their deck? Probability. Fewer cards means better draws, which makes everything else in your build fire more often: Deck building and thinning.

Difficulty

How do I handle boss blinds? Read them in advance — the game shows you what’s coming. Then classify and add redundancy: Boss blind framework.

What makes Gold Stake so much harder? Joker stickers: temporary jokers, costly jokers, locked jokers. Build for replaceability: Gold Stake guide.

About this site

Where are the joker numbers? Coming. We publish exact figures only after checking them against the game’s own data files, and we’d rather ship the mechanics now and the table when it’s verified. See the Balatro hub for what’s covered today.

Frequently asked questions

How is score calculated in Balatro?

Chips multiplied by mult. Both start from your poker hand's base values and are modified by cards, enhancements and jokers in a fixed order — see the full breakdown of how scoring works.

Does joker order matter?

Yes. Jokers fire left to right and ×Mult jokers multiply whatever mult exists at that moment, so additive effects belong on the left of multiplicative ones.

Should I skip blinds?

Usually not. Skipping forfeits the blind's cash, a shop visit and hand-level progress in exchange for one tag.

Which hand type should I level?

The one you can reliably play every ante. Levelling several hand types spreads the same investment too thin to matter.

Why is my deck better when it is smaller?

Every card removed raises the chance that the cards you draw are the ones your build wants — it is straightforward probability.

What is the difference between +Mult and ×Mult?

Additive mult adds a fixed amount; multiplicative mult multiplies the total accumulated so far. Multiplicative effects are far stronger, but only once you have something worth multiplying.

How do I beat boss blinds consistently?

Read the boss before the ante, classify what it attacks, and add redundancy rather than rebuilding your whole run for one fight.

What changes at the highest stakes?

Joker stickers — effects that make jokers temporary, costly to hold, or impossible to remove. The counter is to build for replaceability.

Is Balatro worth buying?

Where can I check a specific joker's exact numbers?

Our joker database is in progress. We publish exact figures only after checking them against the game's own data, rather than copying a table we cannot verify.
